Truckmate dropside or box body: which suits the job?

The Foton Truckmate range gives businesses a choice between an open dropside and an enclosed box body. The right configuration depends on what needs to be carried and how it is loaded.
Foton’s July 2025 overview lists a 1.2-tonne payload for the dropside and 1.1 tonnes for the box body. The dropside suits loads needing side access; the box body provides an enclosed space for goods that need weather protection.
A compact commercial powertrain
The Truckmate uses an 82 kW engine producing 142 Nm, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. The overview also lists ABS and electronic brakeforce distribution.
For a business comparing its first delivery vehicle or adding to a fleet, the practical next step is to measure typical loads. Thorp Foton can then help compare the current Truckmate configurations and equipment.
